El HaLev - Building Safer Communities
The last few months of our lives have been different from anything we have ever experienced before. Lockdowns, uncertainty, frustration – all over the world, these have created a collective feeling of helplessness in the face of Covid-19. They have also contributed to an unprecedented rise in violence against women and children, in their homes – all at the hands of family members.
The NGO El HaLev has recognized and responded to this domestic disaster. As leaders in the violence prevention education movement for almost two decades, they are now bringing their expertise to the development of an App that will provide resources to those vulnerable to abuse and violence. The App will teach both personal safety skills and the confidence to say “no!”
It will be based on the “The 5 Principles” which are the heart and foundation of Empowerment Self Defense. By learning to apply these principles, users will develop concrete, practical safety skills that can be used at any time, in any setting of their daily lives. The App uses scenario-based role play to develop a wide range of responses for when boundaries are crossed or challenged, or when peer pressure, bullying, sexual harassment, or any other type of violence are encountered
